Japanese Solid Silver Koro/incense Burner In The Form Of A Hawk

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality Meiji Period 1868-1912 , solid Silver Koro (incense burner) in the form of a standing Hawk, the Bird is finely chiselled throughout the feathered detail and stands upon gilded legs , the tail feathers are highlighted in Shakudo , the eyes also picked out in gilt and Shakudo detail as well as its Beak , the solid Silver vessel has a pierced cut out oval panel upon his back enabling the hollow Koro to be filled with incense , the pierced panel allows the scent to escape , the Bird comes complete with its original silk lined Tomobako (storage box) the box is inscribed Nanryo Taka Koro ( a refined silver incense burner of a Hawk ) the silver has age patinated to that gorgeous steel blue colour that only Japanese high grade silver seems to go , a highly decorative and unusual item that would enhance your Japanese works of art or Okimono collection .
