Late Victorian Oak Steel bound Silver chest circa very well made and robust with 2 good quality solid brass working locks (with keys). Made for the Pearce-Edgcumbe family circa 1895, possibly earlier. Sir Edward Robert Pearce-Edgcumbe was a well known and documented Victorian barrister and High Sheriff of Cornwall.
These chests were configured differently for each customer but usually had a tray to the top over lower compartments. Some evidence of the original original con can still be seen. Dovetailed joints. Original hinges, working locks and keys. A number of small marks under the finish (see pictures) commensurate with its age and having been moved frequently, no worm or damage.
Presented refurbished and re waxed.
