Description

A good 18th century English lantern clock by Thomas Kefford of Royston. An engraved dial centre with makers name and a silvered chapter ring with the original single hand. The original verge escapement which has not been converted to anchor as many were. A rope driven 30 hour mechanism with a quality period brass cased weight.

Thomas Kefford of Royston (Hertfordshire) is a noted maker who worked at the dial in Fore Street from circa 1710 to 1770. He died in 1774. This is a good original example.

Height 14" / 35 cms Width 5 1/2 " / 14 cms Depth (to end of spikes) 8 " / 20 cms.
