In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The hinged lid opens to the large storage area and also reveals an additional candle box within. This candle box is lined with Newspaper dated 1912, although we believe the chest pre-dates the newspaper.
It is in good condition throughout and is strong and sturdy with a beautiful rich patina. There are signs of age and use, some small marks and knocks, a small split in the lid and a small chip on the front bottom corner but nothing detrimental or untowards. The hinges have been changed and moved at some point but are strong and in good order. All the brass is present and in good order and the interior is clean and tidy. Please note there is no key.
The chest has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.
