Late 19th.c. Sofa with Original Upholstery C.1890.

Description

Superb late 19th.c. sofa retaining the original upholstery c.1890. Shaped and sprung backrest, covered and padded arms on turned supports over a deep sprung seat. Extravagantly upholstered in a deep red velvet damask with Art Nouveau design of stylized flower and leaf forms. With a long tassel braid below the seat and a shorter version of the same to the arm pads. Further decorative cord to the backrest and also laid in a trellis pattern around the front and sides of the seat. Raised on turned front legs with small brass castors. Very good condition with only minor wear to the covers. The rear of the couch has been relined in black.
