Unusual Minton Porcelain Aesthetic Period Vase 1870

A fascinating mix of styles in this unusual Minton porcelain vase with clear Aesthetic movement influences in the Japanese style decoration to the body of the vase with cloisonne style geometric bands, butterflies and blossoms. This is held aloft a very organic style base on 3 twisting green branches with lilac spots. The base itself is formed like a large lily pad leaf with moulded twining flowers and rising to a large, textured open lipped flower in lime green and turquoise with the main vase sitting in the centre. Impressed Minton mark to the base with date cypher for 1870 and model number 1791.

Interestingly this exact same shape has been used with a majolica glaze, the vase decorated as an aubergine with glossy purple main body and all green stylised base (model 1391). The few examples I have found are dated approx. 5 years later than this piece (but an earlier model number) so I'm still not sure of the full story behind this unusual shape.

It measures 23cm (9") high and 14cm (5 1/2") wide. Condition is very good: there is a small section of the very top part of the rim that has been restored. No other restoration or damage and very light surface wear.
