A Rare Pair of Silver 'Lincoln Imp' Salt Spoons

1900 - 1920
Description

A diminutive and rare pair of silver salt spoons from the Birmingham Assay Office. These interesting examples have terminals featuring the figure of the Lincoln Imp. The Lincoln Imp is a feature in the roof of Lincoln Cathedral and was said to have been turned to stone by an Angel, for mischievous behaviour during the construction of the Cathedral. Legend has it, that he moves around the roof making it difficult for visitors to spot him. The spoons have a shell bowl, barley twist shank and are delightful both as collector's pieces and for practical use. Dimensions below.
