Description

Impressive late 19th.c. Renaissance revival carved oak bookcase c.1890. Two long doors with glazed upper panels fitted inside with four adjustable shelves (12? depth) plus a slim drawer below. Elaborately carved in high relief across the front. The deep cornice featuring a Renaissance style grotesque mask flanked with scrolling acanthus leaves, lions heads to the sides over fruit and flower garlands, whilst the lower door panels are carved to represent music, visual arts and architecture. Oversized carved mouldings to the cornice and plinth, carved and pierced arch top surround to the glazing. The shelf fronts are also carved to match and the drawer is also craved with another face. Solid oak panel sides and backboards. Raised on turned bun feet. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Key supplied.
