Tavern or "Act of Parliament" Wall Clock

Description

A handsome and rare George III period "ACT of PARLIAMENT" or TAVERN CLOCK by Robert Peake of Dereham (Norfolk).

The 23-inch one-piece dial is painted with black Roman numerals on a cream ground, whilst the long trunk with its shaped door is decorated with chinoiserie pavilions and figures, with gilded scrollwork to the "ears" that flank the signature.

The 8-day weight-driven movement is of "A" frame construction whilst the large brass hands feature a counter-weight to the minute hand. Original pendulum and oval weight. Perfect working order; 56ins (142cms) high overall.
