A Georgian Longcase Clock by William Barnard, Newark

18th century
Description

A Georgian period Nottinghamshire longcase clock. A well proportioned oak case with a caddy top surmounted by original gilded wooden ball finials. Gilded hood capitals to the front and rear. An arched trunk door with original outside hinges. A brass and silvered dial with corner spandrels, date and seconds with blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

William Barnard of Newark is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working until 1784 and born in 1707. This example dates to circa 1760.
