Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A transitional cut diamond engagement ring features a gemstone produced during the evolution between the hand-cut Old European cut and the modern round brilliant cut, typical of the 1930s to 1950s. These cuts offer a balance of lower crown height, larger table, and refined facet patterns that reflect light differently than modern machine-cut stones.

Mid-century engagement rings frequently featured 18ct yellow gold shanks paired with platinum or white gold head settings to enhance the brightness of the centre diamond. Detailed piercework, coronet claws, and delicate shoulder accents were popular construction techniques of the era.

Authentic mid-century rings can be identified by hallmark stamps on the interior band, transitional or early brilliant cut diamonds with open or tiny culets, and distinctive illusion or basket settings. The precise hand craftsmanship often shows subtle variations not found in modern cast reproductions.

A mid-century engagement ring pairs well with simple contemporary bands in matching yellow gold or platinum to create a mixed-metal look. Its classic proportion allows it to serve as a standalone statement piece or blend seamlessly into a modern stacked ring arrangement.

Clean the ring using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from behind the setting. Avoid harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners if the setting features delicate accent stones or intricate filigree, and have claws inspected regularly by a jeweller.
