Description

Early 20th.c. French marble top chest of drawers c.1920. Useful narrow dimensions, just 27½" wide. Original and attractively patterned marble top with a serpentine front and moulded edges. Over seven slim drawers, one for each day of the week, hence the name semainier. Stunning tulipwood veneers laid in a chequerboard pattern across the front and sides with contrasting inlaid stringing to the edges and canted and crossbanded corners. Original gilded ormolu mounts, laurel wreath handles and decorative escutcheon plates. Shaped apron and legs with further gilded mounts. Oak drawer linings and back panels. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
