Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the Regency era.
The dial, with its finely cast ormolu bezel, is flanked by classical figures of muses, whilst the whole clock is mounted on a white marble base applied with ormolu swags flanking a central mask.

The 8-day English movement is chain-driven fusee and is signed (engraved) to the backplate: "French, Royal Exchange, LONDON".14ins (36cms) wide.
James Moore FRENCH (1808-1842) was a prominent and highly regarded clockmaker who made watches; clocks and marine chronometers. He was based in Cornhill, Royal Exchange from 1837-1842.
