Description

I love the glowing madder-red in the ground of this beautiful little Turkmen wedding rug, made by a Teke weaver circa 1870-1880. Wedding rugs were made specifically by the bride for her and the groom to stand on at their wedding ceremony and take their marriage vows. The quality of the work that went into the weaving of these rugs was of the highest quality which showed the young bride as an accomplished weaver and would therefore bring wealth to the family. This charming little rug is in excellent overall condition with no repairs other than the selvedges having been re-bound.
