Antique F E Roskopf pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed F E Roskopf and it also has a Swiss brevet (or patent) number 18632 which relates to a 1900 patent in the name of Fritz Edouard Roskopf for improved setting of the hands.

The movement also has the wording, 'Montre primée à Paris, Exposition Universelle 1900'...Award-winning watch in Paris, Exposition Universelle, 1900.

The movement is protected by an inner cover signed F E Roskopf. It also has details of medals won at Exposition Universelle, Paris 1900, Liege 1905 and Milan 1906. This inner cover does not quite shut completely but the outer back cover does.

The watch measures 54mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The watch has an interesting white metal case. The bezel has the wording, 'l'heure Nationale Belge'... Belgian national time. This is thought to relate to the anniversary of Belgium adopting the time zones based on the Greenwich meridian.

The hinged case back has the Belgian coat of arms together with the motto, 'L'union fait la force'... unity makes strength. This larger central coat of arms is surrounded by smaller ones for the nine Belgian provinces. The detailing has rubbed over the years but most is still legible.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The signed dial has a few fairly faint hairline cracks, and damage towards the perimeter of the dial at 1 and 6. Originally the pin-set hands would have had infill but this has been removed over the years.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
