Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Posed symmetrically, both hold gloves in one hand whilst the other rests on a book or back of a chair. Note how the wood panelling continues across the backround of both. Some interesting costume and jewellery detail, with cleverly realised beadwork to the front on the lady’s gown. Clearly signed in the bottom left hand corner of each panel. The portrait of the lady is also dated 1889. Very good condition, presented unframed on the original stretchers. The portrait of the lady would appear to have been restored and relined.
Dimensions: width 36", depth 1", height 52½".
