Large Victorian Silver Baluster Cream Jug Martin, Hall & Co.

19th century
Description

Very stylish and fine quality silver cream jug of plain round bellied form with double scroll handle and lovely shaped raised spout with cast fluted detail and edged with scrolls to shape the rim. The circular foot and jug rim are trimmed with a fine beaded border and the inside is gilded. On one side is an attractive armorial of a goat's head over a coronet. Hallmarked for Sheffield 1890, maker Martin, Hall & Co. (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall).

It measures 12.5cm (5") high, 10cm (4") spout to handle and 7.5cm (3") wide. It weighs 199g/6.4ozt. Condition is very good with no damage or repairs. There is just one tiny pin-prick ding to the right of the lower terminal of the handle; surface wear is light, there is just a little rubbing to the edge of the hallmarks. I apologise for the reflections in the photographs which are unavoidable with pieces of this shape I'm afraid.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
