Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gothic Revival furniture from the Victorian era draws inspiration from medieval architecture, featuring motifs such as pointed arches, tracery, spire-like pinnacles, and intricate bobbin turning. Popularised in the mid-to-late 19th century, this style favoured heavy, dark hardwoods like oak and walnut combined with sturdy upholstery.

These chairs were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as English walnut, oak, or mahogany. Upholstery frequently incorporated thick hide leather or velvet, fastened to the timber frames with brass studded tacks and supported by internal webbed or spring seat construction.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display crisp hand-carving, traditional joinery such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, and legitimate age-related wear or patination on the timber. The scale is typically substantial, featuring architectural backrests, turned stretchers, and brass studwork along leather edges.

A pair of Gothic Revival armchairs can serve as structured accent seating alongside minimalist contemporary sofas to create historical contrast. Placing them in a study, hallway, or flanking a fireplace adds architectural structure and textured leather tones to both traditional and modern spaces.

Dust timber frames regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to nourish the walnut wood. Leather upholstery should be kept away from direct heat sources and treated with a specialist leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking over time.
