Description

A high quality late 18th century French Directoire period mantel clock. A portico design with black columns with the original gilded decorations. Gilt finials to the base with chain links. A convex enamel dial with fine gilt hands signed 'Gavelle Paris'. An 8-day duration mechanism with silk suspension striking the 1/2 hours and hours on a bell.

The Gavelle family of clockmakers worked in Paris in the 18th and early 19th century. Pierre Gavelle worked from 1771 to 1800.
