Description

This is a very impressive large antique Swedish pedestal desk in satin birch with ebonized columns back & front. The grain of wood is beautiful & like most Swedish satin birch items it has that lovely silky finish with lighter & darker features. This desk is in excellent condition & I would date it to around the 1880’s period, or possibly earlier. There are three drawers on the top with two cupboards on the front of the pedestals which have sliding drawers inside. The back has polished dummy drawers & cupboards. It’s a decent size with plenty of working area & it dismantles into three sections for easy transportation. This desk has just come over from Sweden & has been French polished. It is very much in the Empire or Beidermeier style. I believe the escutcheons & locks are original plus we have the working keys.
