P A Oxley Antique Clocks & Barometers has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The movement has also retained its original brass bound weights and wood rod pendulum. The round silvered brass dial displays both seconds, date and with matching blued steel hands and is signed by the maker to the centre of the dial, James Aitchison of Edinburgh. The plain mahogany veneered case has a glazed trunk door, a single plinth to the plain mahogany base and a very elegant architectural pediment.
A highly collectable longcase clock.
