Description

Super quality little mid 19th.c. Davenport writing desk c.1860. Sloped top with a leather writing surface, raised brass gallery and a hinged pen tray to one side. Top opens to reveal a lockable compartment below and slides forward to make it more comfortable to sit at. Base contains a bank of four drawers of graduated depth behind a lockable door in the front. With slides in each side to provide extra space for a drink or a lamp perhaps. Raised on turned bun feet with the original neat little brass castors below. Beautifully figured tulipwood veneers to the top, sides and rear. Crossbanded flame mahogany veneered door panel on mahogany groundwork. Original brass handles throughout, with unusual pressed backplates to the drawers featuring a crown motif. Solid mahogany drawer fronts and linings. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied.
