Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.

Each bottle measures 5 1/4" tall to the top of the stopper. The bottles are made from top-notch crystal with intricate and deep hand-cutting in the ever popular hobnail design ... both in excellent condition, the heavy cut stoppers reflect the light like large diamonds.

The frame is made of bronze and lavishly covered in gold, made by the quality manufacturer Betjemann's and is marked Betjemann's Patent, London. The wood used is exotic Coromandel which with the gold mounts are a beautiful combination. The fittings are beautifully hand engraved. The original maker's / retailer's label is present at the bottom of the frame "Furber & Son, Cheltenham".

The Tantalus comes with a working key (with a push and turn action) releasing the top bar to moved and allowing the bottles to be removed.
Excellent condition with a footprint measuring 7" x 3 3/4" x 7 3/4 tall to top of handle.
