Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
There is a spherical shaped knob to open the mirror front revealing the double photo frame.

The frames are both glazed and contain their original pictures. I assume this piece was specially commissioned, if you look closely at the top of the frame .. it incorporates two intertwined initials ... I think L & S.

The entire piece is extremely heavy and solid, standing on it's original folding easel stand.
It is an impressive and important piece measuring 11" tall x 9 3/4" wide; the openings of each picture frame measure 5 1/2" x 4 3/4". Excellent condition.
