Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Malayer rugs originate from the Hamadan region in western Iran, produced in small village workshops circa the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They are renowned for diverse individual designs, including the repeating Herati lattice motif, combining single-weft construction with local artisanal weaving traditions.

These rugs are typically hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation. Saturated shades are achieved using natural plant and mineral dyes, such as madder root for deep reds and indigo for dark blues.

Authentic period rugs exhibit natural abrashsubtle colour variations caused by small-batch vegetable dyeingand slight geometric irregularities in the weave pattern. Inspection of the reverse side will reveal hand-knotted construction rather than uniform machine stitching or synthetic backing.

An antique rug serves as a foundational anchor in living areas, dining spaces, or bedrooms, pairing equally well with period mahogany furniture or sleek contemporary profiles. Placing the carpet over neutral wood floorboards allows the detailed geometric motifs and rich tones to ground the space.

Regular gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater bar prevents fibre breakage and removes accumulated dust. Use a quality underlay to prevent slippage and wear, rotate the rug periodically to ensure even exposure to light, and engage a professional specialist for deep cleaning.
