Suite of African Carved Furniture C.1900.

1900 - 1920
Description

Remarkable suite of early 20th.c. African hardwood carved furniture comprising two pairs of chairs and a matching table c.1900. Probably produced as export items in the first half of the 20th.c. Construction however is of traditional technique with both the table and chairs being carved from single blocks of timber, rather than being jointed as in modern furniture.

The legs of the table are carved as male and female figures above lions. The arms and legs of one pair of the chairs are also lions, and lions continue as the legs of the second pair, which have solid arms with a fish motif. All chairs feature pierced backs, one of which depicts a bird eating a snake. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

Dimensions: Table: width 23", depth 23", height 25½". Chairs: width 20", depth 18", height 28"-32".

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
