Mytton Antiques - Jerrard Nares has dated this piece to the 1750s.
The jar painted with a scene of an American Indian, with feathered head dress. He sits on the edge of a pedestal, smoking a pipe. Behind him is a large tobacco jar, numbered '2', and a basket of tobacco leaves. In the background a tall tree grows, with tow ships in full sail in the distance. A packing case is titled VOC for the Dutch East Indian Company. The underside marked 'BP' for the maker Blompot of Molslaan, Delft.
