A fine 19th century bronze of seated Sappho by Jean-Jacques Pradier (1790-1852) The Swiss born Frech sculptor also known as James Pradier, was best know for his work in the neoclassical style. The sculpture shows the poet Sappho seated on a low bench with her lyre resting against her back. Signed ‘J.Pradier Susse edit’ Susse edit is the mark for the famous French foundry Susse Frčres. Approx date of manufacture C.1852
