Christian Davies Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The top slides forward so you can sit comfortably to it, having a hinged pen tray and ink well space which is released by an ingenious concealed peg (see pictures). The right hand side has four graduating mahogany lined drawers with fine burr walnut fronts and the original turned walnut drawer pulls. The left hand side with "Dummy" drawers and a pull out secretary slide. The front and reverse are in the finest burr walnut veneers, the whole supported on turned and fluted feet with inset castors. Retailed by Willson of Gt Queen Street, London. The design for a related davenport with the articulated fitted drawer and slide appears in the Gillows estimate sketch books for 16th October 1830. English circa 1840-1850
