Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The centre has the original grater for grating spices such as nutmeg and ginger.
The cottage has painted doors and windows to both sides with climbing roses on the walls. The lid has a textured finish which appears to be in the form of lacquer with a turned and painted knob in the form of a chimney. The box has its original hinge and hasp with original nickel plated padlock.
This piece is in good condition with some age related wear and patina. The chimney has been repaired at some stage.
