Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George I walnut lowboy is a small side table fitted with drawers, produced in Britain during the reign of King George I between 1714 and 1727. Typically elevated on cabriole legs, these pieces served as dressing tables or compact writing desks in 18th-century domestic interiors.

Early Georgian lowboys were primarily constructed using figure walnut veneers laid over oak or pine carcases, often featuring oak drawer linings. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass batwing or backplate drop handles alongside iron lock mechanisms.

Authentic George I furniture features hand-cut dovetail joints, oak drawer linings with timber grain running front-to-back, and evidence of natural timber shrinkage. Look for original brassware fixings, hand-planed back panels, and smooth wear on the drawer runners.

A walnut lowboy functions as an entryway console, occasional desk, or bedside table in contemporary settings. Position it against a neutral wall alongside modern ceramics, contemporary table lamps, or framed artwork to create a clear visual contrast.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timber patina. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting.
