Antique English Tortoiseshell, Mother of Pearl and Sterling Silver Card Case

Description

A wonderful example of an English visiting card case dating to around 1850 made from a stunning piece of antique tortoise shell with stylish curved edges all around.

The front is inlaid with a diamond shaped lozenge made from a combination of iridescent Mother of Pearl shell and sterling silver, both beautifully decorated. The centre of the silver tablet is engraved with a decorative monogram.

The push button, catch and hinge are all in perfect working order. When the lid is opened, the ivory trim is revealed together with the original amethyst coloured velvet lining.

Superb undamaged condition, measuring 4" x 3".
