A Beautiful Silver Dial Strike/repeat Carriage Clock

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Overton Clocks of Chesterfield ltd

Description

A beautiful Silver Dial Carriage clock with strike/repeat function and a lovely engine turned dial with porcelain insert.
This clock has two name stamps on it, one on the gong that is the letter G.B in a square and J.S in an oval on the main clock plate. with a little bit of research I have found that the make is probably Soldano. He won a bronze medal in the Paris exhibition of 1855 and 1878 for his substantial growth in the art of case decoration. This is certainly evident in the design of this case.
The gilt case with reeded columns and copper gilt Corinthian finials to each end and copper gilt "milled" pieced to the intersections really does make this clock stand out. The large size of 20cm high gives it a lovely presence.
The Movement has been totally overhauled and has it been polished using an age old technique of using chalk, This process although very labour intensive, gives the clock a finish that is simply not achieved by conventional polishes and creams.
