Description

RARE Large 18th Century Engraving of the Panoramic View of Athens by James Basire . This magnificent view engraved from sketches made by James Stuart during his and Nicholas Revetts surjourn in Athens 1751-55. It shows the two columns forming the gateway, one stands today in Kolonaki Square whilst the pediment and other column rest nearby in the Botanic Gardens. You can also see the Acropolis with the building of the Plaka on its slopes, the Thesion and the Temple of Zeus Olympus nearby.
