Edwardian mahogany military chest

This Edwardian mahogany military chest was made at the start of the 20th for use by a British serving officer.

Typically, this design was retailed by the Army and Navy stores for naval officers.

This was sourced in the Portsmouth area and we have purchased many in the properties near the naval dockyard over the last few decades.

This military chest is rare as it has the 3 drawer base section rather than the usual 2.

The top section has the usual pair of drawers at the top and the full drawer below.

It stands on the original turned peg feet.

Each drawer is fitted the inset brass handles which were the fashion of the period, not the fully flush handles used previously on such chests.

This was made in 2 parts to make it easy to be transported with the officer when posted overseas, to the many outposts of the British Empire. As it is in 2 sections that makes it easier to move it around your home.
