A mid-19th-century brass mounted mahogany two-part Campaign chest with a secretaire drawer. This chest comes apart in two sections which would have initially been designed for the ease of transportation. Both the upper and lower sections of this chest would have originally been transported in individual trunks with large handles to either side.The top of the two section features a secretaire located to the middle of the chest, flanked on each side by two small box drawers. This chest displays original brass rectangular back plated handles with inset corners and bands across the framework - The two back corners have at some point been replaced.The secretaire drawer has a fall front that operates by pressing a button release to each side of the drawer which when open, reveals 6 additional small drawers featuring small wooden handles to each, a couple of which have partially broken off. writing surface houses its original leather writing insert which does h...
