Description

This exquisite 19th Century French silver "tastevin" or wine taster dates circa 1890 and bears the Paris Minerva hallmark with mint mark 1 for a high grade silver content (950). It is of shallow circular form, embossed with circular patterns and part-fluted decoration.

Detailed snake ring handle.

Dimensions and Weight:

Diameter: 7.5cm / 3 inches.

Height: 2.5cm / 1 inch.

Weight: 3.1 oz / 85 g

Condition:

Very good.

Surface wear commensurate with age.

Hallmarks:

Head of Minerva with number 1 for 950 silver fineness.

Minerva with the lock of hair and with mint mark on the side indicating Paris rather than Provinces.

Maker's marks in lozenge, partially erased.
