This is an antique monk's bench. A metamorphic table / chair in English oak dating from the 18th century and later.
Appealing biscuit tones to the rich antique oak
Grain interest throughout with a desirable aged patina
A metamorphic table converting into a chair
Four plank table top with cleated ends displays well
A slide and hinge mechanism moves the top into a chair back
The chair back decorated with carved foliate demi-lunes
The earlier chair frame offers a generous seat
Shaped arms terminate in scroll finger grips
Supported on stout, barrel turned risers with pegged joints
Plank seat slab over foliate carved demi-lune rails
Standing upon stout, barrel turned legs
