Christian Davies Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The beautiful frieze inlaid with various exotic woods and veneers including tulipwood, purple heart, ebony, sycamore and amboyna and having four oval Wedgwood plaques with classical scenes. The front also of breakfront outline with fine quality cast ormolu mounts to the pilasters with six adjustable mahogany shelves with leather gilt tooled dust protectors. The ends are also veneered in burr walnut with marquetry inlay, the whole supported on a burr walnut veneered breakfront plinth, possibly made by Gillows or Holland & Sons of London. English circa 1860-1870
