Good French "Portico" Mantel Clock

Description

An impressive and fine quality mid-19th century French Second Empire period MANTEL CLOCK in perfect working order.

The "portico" style case is of satin birch embellished with ormolu mounts and ormolu capitals to the four columns. The eight-day movement strikes hours and half-hours on a bell via the outside countwheel, whilst the original bi-metallic "grid-iron" pendulum is of finely cast ormolu, as is the good gilded dial and dial surround. Signed Ghresbright of Brussels. 19.25ins high; 5.25ins deep.
