Description

Here we see a very early example of a Qashqa'i vanity-bag ('chanteh' in Persian), probably dating to the third quarter of the nineteenth century. The use of vegetable green is amazing! A rare colour and only found in the early weavings of this tribe. The large central lozenge on a stunning indigo-blue background represents the double-headed sun-bird or sun-dog - symbolically, the guardian of the gates of Paradise. The bag is complete with plain-weave back. Rare!
