Description

Beautiful George III box settle in elm c.1800. Tall six panel backrest and gracefully shaped arms on turned supports. Over a panelled seat which lifts to reveal useful storage inside the base for shoes or blankets etc. Panelled front and sides to the base, note how the rear is flared to provide extra stability. Generally excellent condition, there is repair to the left hand edge of the seat and, typically for elm country furniture of the period, the bases of the stiles have also had to be repaired. A lovely example of the form with particularly good colour and patina to the timber. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
