Beautiful Precision Regulator Longcase Clock By E White No 879

Sold by: Overton Clocks of Chesterfield ltd

Description

A Most exceptional Precision Regulator made by the eminent E White of Cockspur Street London. This particular clock is has a most wonderful mahogany case with undamaged fretwork to the "under dial". The curved access panels to the top still retains their original green felt to the surround and working locks and keys. The free standing case is exactly 186cm high, 46 cm wide and 29cm deep.
The very substantial five pillar movement had been made to a very high standard as expected by a clock made by Edward White and features fully jewelled pallets, micro adjustment for the beat and micro adjustment to the beautifully crafted mercury pendulum. The movement has been manufactured from 1/4" thick plate brass and measures 8" square. The substantial pillars are exactly 1" round and are secured with handmade brass screws. The natural gutline is fed from the movement to the side of the case via a screw cut barrel onto a exquisite pully with blued screws. The Tiny brass weight does not have and knocks or dents and passes through the hole in the bottom of the case exactly.
Edward White was formally the works Forman for Dent Clockmakers and set up his own clockmaking business in 1861, operating from an address on the same street as Dent. Edward was an exceptional clockmaker and is known for his very good Chronograph and precision Clocks. He won prizes for "Great taste and excellence of workmanship" in London 1862 and Dublin1867. I would date this clock to around c1870 given the manufacture Number of 879
