Stunning Georgian Rosewood Tea Caddy - Shell Inlay - C.1790

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

An absolute stunner of a tea caddy, a good early example dating to the late eighteenth century, around 1790, George III in period.

Made from exotic Rosewood, the edges have a beautiful foliate inlay all around the front and top; and the top inlaid with a stunning conch shell.

The dual compartments inside are topped with lids in Satinwood with Rosewood cross-banding (both lids have a couple of age / grain cracks to the veneer, stable but mentioned for accuracy), each lid has a small turned ivory knob which compliments the diamond shaped ivory escutcheon.

The caddy stands on four brass ball feet and both sides have a wonderful cast brass lion's head handle.

Excellent condition, measuring 8" x 5" x 5 3/4" tall.

Declaration
