As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this Meiji period 1868-1912 , circa 1890, parcel gilded Bronze Okimono by arguably the leading maker of the period, Miyao Eisuke , the delightful Okimono depicts a Japanese Fisherman holding aloft his catch of the day, maybe two huge Tuna, in a large woven basket , the artist has perfectly captured the joy on the Fishermans face , he is dressed in a finely decorated Tunic tied with a Gold sash, from which hangs his Kiserutzu (pipe case ) and Tobacco pouch , the characters skin is patinated in a contrasting brown and his finely chiselled hair is tied in immaculate fashion , the removable hardwood base to which he is pegged is decorated in fine Gold lacquer detail, so typical of the high quality products produced at the Miyao company during the late 19th century , the Okimono is artist signed in an inset Gilt tablet to the rear, and would make a fine addition to your Japanese Works of art collection .
