Arts & Craft Silver Vase by Berthold Muller, Import Marks for Chester 1908

Description

This stunning Arts and Crafts silver vase was imported by the highly collectable Berthold Muller * who was at the forefront of the German Hanau silver group. The spot-hammered trumpet-shaped body with punched border detail beneath the rim, repeated to the base. The circular pedestal foot with a stylised gadroon border. Plain everted rim. Very good silevr gauge

* Berthold Mueller was an import firm, who distributed a lot of Neresheimer silver. The firm changed its name in 1915 to Berthold Muller and was listed as wholesale silversmiths and jewellers.

B. Neresheimer & Sohne, Hanau, Germany offered a wide range of highly decorative objects and other sumptuous sideboard pieces. Hanau silver was largely imported in UK between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

Hallmarks:

Chester Import Marks.

925 for silver purity.

Date letter "H" for 1908

BM for Berthold Mueller.

Hanau pseudo marks for Neresheimer.

Dimensions:

Height: 15.5cm / 6.1 inches.

Rim Diameter: 11cm / 4.2 inches.

Weight: 243 g / 7.8 oz.

Condition:

Very good.

Very sight rocking of base.
