Description

Unusually large early 20th.c. Indian marquetry inlaid rosewood coffee table c.1920. 39" diameter octagonal table with raised circular centre. Top inlaid with superb marquetry work design featuring scores of Indian elephants amongst jungle foliage. At the centre of the table and surrounded by a decorative inlaid border domesticated elephants are corralled into a fenced enclosure by their mahout, whilst the margin features wild elephants at play in the forest. Further fine inlaid detail to the corner points and edges of the octagonal surround and continuing on the legs. Missing a few small portions of inlay, otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
