Japy Freres Ormolu and Specimen Marble Four Glass Crystal Clock Set

19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully working ~~

A beautiful original antique French four glass regulator clock set of the most beautiful variegated blue and orange specimen marble by Japy Freres. It is classical in style with four columns of marble and classical urns with pineapple finials. Beveled glass to the front and sides allows the mercury compensated pendulum to be seen gently swinging.

The dial is porcelain enamel on copper with finely fretted gilt hands and delicate floral swags between the numbers.

The French movement is of high quality and is by Japy Freres. It is in excellent clean and running condition. Pendulum is original, we have replaced the mercury with silver steel for safety. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, Marble has a good polish, a few minor nibbles to the edges and two filled holes in the top. The original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage. The glass has a slight chip to the side panels.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
