A Superb Early Walnut Longcase Clock by T. Haslewood, London Circa. 1720

Description

A superb early London walnut longcase clock. A fine walnut case with choice burr veneers. A moulded hood pediment with side glass apertures and front and rear brass capped hood columns. An arched trunk door with moulded edging with crossbanding. An early example of an arched brass dial with strike/silent and cast spandrels to the corners. A silvered chapter ring with seconds and unusual crescent plaque signed 'Thomas Haslewood London' with date aperture below. An 8-day duration mechanism of high quality with 5 pillars striking the hours on a bell. London quality feature of brass cased weights and brass flat rod pendulum. Circa. 1720.

Thomas Haslewood of London is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working before 1724.
