FB Antiques has dated this Boulle Bonheur Du Jour to the Victorian era.
Below this the two doors, each profusely inlaid with brass, open to reveal a polished interior with a single shelf. The top fits onto the base, which is serpentine in form and has an inset leather hide, hand dyed in a mottled red and black, decorated with both gold and blind tooling. The desk has a pull out slide below, lined with a velvet insert with decorative blind tooling. Below this, a single shaped drawer, also profusely inlaid with brass to match the top, and the legs of the piece. The bonheur du jour is raised on elegantly shaped legs, with ormolu mounts and further inlay, terminating on brass caps. This piece is in excellent condition, having only minor wear commensurate with age and use. A fine piece of furniture which truly highlights the high quality standards and attention to detail that 19th century craftsmen adhered to.
